    Hello everyone!

Well, it is that time of year again!  Summer is clipping along and we are less than three weeks away from our LIPAMA Annual Summer Social on August 22nd. Everything is shaping up nicely. Click here for the PDF Flyer: 2013 Summer Social.pdf

If you have not registered and plan to attend, please do so soon so we get an accurate headcount for food and beverages and get you on the entry roster. Click:  http://www.lipama.org/Default.aspx?pageId=1243367&eventId=710730&EventViewMode=EventDetails

Live entertainment this year will be from Matt and Mike from Super Acoustic. Great guys performing an outstanding mix of easy listening tunes, you may remember them from our December 19th LIPAMA Holiday Dinner. Were looking forward to their great music and vocals!

For our special mid-event entertainment this year, Elvis is still dead!, but look forward to the talent and entertainment style of Mr. Steve Charles.  Steve is going to treat us to a really fun show and some "Rat Pack Era" renditions of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and other classics...maybe even an Elvis song?  www.wowshow.biz

We are talking with the folks from Rivetborne, a high performance aviation center offering specialized corporate leadership and flight training programs. They provide undergraduate pilot training for US Air Force Cadets and we are kicking around the idea of them bringing down the M – 26 Air Wolf acrobatic trainer for static display. Very unique aircraft.  Still working on those details…stay tuned… www.rivetborne.com

We were working to organize a rib smoker barbecue competition between Constant Aviation, Embraer and ExcelAire and a cook-off judging panel for their respective super-secret rib recipes. The logistics just weren't working out for us, but we think it a really fun idea! We will plan on hosting a rib competition next year.

This year's food will be served up from our family friends at Mamma Mia's Ristorante, located on Ocean Avenue at Veterans Memorial Highway in Ronkonkoma. They will be serving up some of the finest grilled sausages, grilled salmon, pasta selections, salads and fresh breads. No one goes home hungry!

Rumor has it that "Joliet Jake" may be getting out on parole on 20 August. Trying to see if we can track him down, but as usual, Ellwood seems to have left the building.  We are still looking for him...

It is going to be a great time again, so come out, relax, enjoy, meet old friends and make some new ones.

We extend our very special thanks to the great folks at Hawthorne Global Aviation Services / ExcelAire for hosting the event this year. They are a great group of professionals to work with!

Our summer event free of charge because of the wonderful sponsors we have. We thank AirCell/GoGo, A&P Maintenance, Camp systems, Constant Aviation, Dallas Airmotive, Duncan Aviation, Embraer, Executive Flightways, Beechcraft, International Communications Group (ICG), The Independent Fixed Based Operators Association (IFBOA), our friends at LIBAA, North American Air Charter, Prostar Aviation, RedVu, Richmor Aviation, Rockwell Collins, Standard Aero, and Vaughn College.  Can’t do it without you!!!

So… if you plan on attending, please go online and register soon as you can so we know to expect you, get enough food and get you on the access list. To register free go to:  http://www.lipama.org/Default.aspx?pageId=1243367&eventId=710730&EventViewMode=EventDetails

For our corporate partners, it's never too late to sponsor our event. You can sponsor  on our website, at registration at the event or feel free to contact Ray Larkin rlarkin@icg.aero or Doris Giambruno  doris@libaa.mail for details on how to sponsor.

Hope you're all enjoying the summer and having a great time!  Come out and join us for our summer blast!

Look forward to seeing you on August 22th, 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Hawthorne Global Aviation Services Hangar located at 2221 Smithtown Ave., Ronkonkoma at the Long Island MacArthur Airport (KISP).

Come hungry and be prepared to have a great time!  Door prizes are highly encouraged.

    Hello Everyone,

We had another great turn out at the Rock Hill Golf Course in Manorville on the 21st for the joint LIBAA/LIPAMA 10th annual Golf Outing.

Over 150 attended.  The weather stayed reasonably cool and with the help of a gentle breeze it turned out to be very nice afternoon.

Doris Giambruno wowed us again for this event and organized and coordinating all of our sponsors and golfers.  Many thanks to everyone that volunteered came out early and assisted with setting up signs, stocking beverage carts, placing sponsor tables and getting everything ready. Lloyd Kasten, LIPAMA Treasurer, did a super job getting the course set-up done in record time.

National AMT Day is today the 24th, so HAPPY AMT DAY!!  National Aircraft Maintenance Technician Day was established in 2008 as a day set aside to recognize the efforts of aviation maintenance professionals as well as the achievements of Charles Edward Taylor, the man who built and maintained the engine that powered the Wright Flyer.

The Congressional Resolution reads, in part: "Resolved, That the House of Representatives-- (1) supports National Aviation Maintenance Technician Day to honor the professional men and women who ensure the safety and security of our airborne aviation infrastructure; and (2) recognizes the life and memory of Charles Edward Taylor, the aviation maintenance technician who built and maintained the engine that was used to power the Wright brothers' first controlled flying machine on December 17, 1903.

The date May 24 was selected to honor the birth date of Taylor.  So, Happy Birthday Chuck!

As we did last year and just before tee-off, we all huddled up in front of the carts and gave a “Happy AMT Day” shout-out to the rest of the world from Long Island.  Thanks you Ray Ringston for supporting the photography at the event and creating this shot.

During the golf, we were treated to a special fly-by and air show of one.  We extend special thanks to the pilot who did such a good job.  This was a first!

The awards dinner was a blast and the sponsors really stepped it up this year with door prizes and raffle gifts.  Nice stuff from our many great sponsors.  We could not do these events without the assistance for our volunteers and generous support of our sponsors.

The Golf Event traditionally wraps up our LIPAMA meeting for the season and marks the start of our summer season.  The Annual LIPAMA summer social will be on August 22 and is tentatively scheduled to be held at MacArthur field.  Stay tuned and we will get you details as the event firms up.

Everyone have a safe and happy summer and we will see you all again soon.

December 31, 2012 -Long Island Professional Aviation Maintenance Association.

Well… here we are at the last day of December 2012... it was a really good year for Long Island PAMA.

    We had a great golf event at Rock Hill;

a great barbecue At Hawthorne Aviation Services complete with great food from Mama Mia’s, hot Italian sausage fresh off the grill… a special appearance From the Blues Brothers.

We Incorporated the Association as a Not-For-Profit Corporation in the State of New York. A very special thank you to our Secretary, Tony Moncayo, who executed the process with both the State and Federal for our 501 status.

We thank all our 2012 dinner sponsors. If I’ve said it 1000 times, I’ll say it 1000 more, we really cannot do what we do without our Sponsors. We extend a very special “Thank You” to; Flight Safety, Satcom Direct, Landmark Aviation, ICG, Sharp Details, Dallas Avionics, and Aviall for such a great year.

Our 2012 Holiday Party on December 19 at Dave and Busters was great. We had a super turnout…lots of happy faces. We had carving stations for turkey and ham, wine at each table and all the traditional trimmings. …and we had a sleigh full of gifts brought in by everyone who came.

Music was by Super Acoustic featuring the great sounds of Matt and Mike…they were right on spot…did a perfect performance. If anyone is interested in super sweet acoustic entertainment from this wonderful group, please contact me and I’ll get you in touch with them.

I was able to take a few photographs at the dinner using my new iPhone, however if it wasn’t for the help of Sue Cosgrove, I would’ve been dead in the water. You see… I’m a blackberry convert and I’ve only had an iPhone for about a month and it was just getting a little too difficult to get it to also take pictures.

Sue saw that I was struggling, came over, took mercy on me and gave me the five minute tutorial. Ofwhich, the photographs are below, although not professional quality, they do a pretty good job…sorry about the red eye’s…I suppose that is another lesson.

This holiday dinner was a special one for us. We were able to recognize the contributions of Tom Baird to the Chapter over the years. It was Tom’s leadership that brought us to the point where could grow into a new level. We were honored to provide Tom a small award…. from us to him… for his service and thank him for all he has done for us.

Right off the bat….in 2013…We have scheduled our IA renewal…Saturday, January 26th at Hawthorne Aviation Services in the ExcelAire Training Room… same as last year. We are looking into other FAA approved training courses we can offer through the year.

The Board of Directors and Members of LIPAMA wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year and we look forward to seeing you throughout 2013.

The resiliency and sense of community on Long Island is unique.  Restoration back to some sort of normalcy will take time and it will take hard work.  It is heartbreaking to wrap one’s mind around the loss and the uncertainty.  To LINY and to all of those affected, you are in our prayers.  Reach out to those less fortunate.   Be safe, be strong, be well.

Hope everyone had a great Summer and you are getting your Fall projects done in advance of the Winter Season.

The Annual LI PAMA BBQ was a great success.  We held the event on August 23rd at the Hawthorn Aviation Services’ ExcelAire hangar on Smithtown Road.  We had 160 advance register and almost 200 attend!

The team pulled the set-up together in about 2 hours…I think we broke some kind of record or something…. usually takes 4 – 5 hours, but everyone stepped up and got it done in the time we had.

Special shout-out to Mike Schipp from Richmor Aviation.  This was Mike’s first BBQ event with helping us and he was hustling and making sure we were ready to go.  Great job from everyone that rolled-up their sleeves and pitched in.

The food, serving, grilling and cooking were orchestrated by James, Tori and Melissa from Mamma Mia’s Restorante in Islip.   Absolutely superb.

On the listening pleasure side of the day, Jim Warrick and Erin Chase did a great job entertaining us with upbeat music.   Very impressive and they are both great individual performers.

A special musical set was performed by Mike Marczyk and Rich Barlow as the Blues Brothers!  Mike and Rich did their best routine and were spot on with their performance and costumes…

At the event, National PAMA pitched in financially and donated additional funds to the AEC.   PAMA President, Dale Forton, flew in to present the check to the AEC and gave us a few words about National membership activities, new chapters and what they are up to…Thanks to Dale and all the folks at National for supporting us.

Very special thanks to all of our wonderful sponsors for allowing us to host this event free to all.

LI PAMA exhibited at the AEC Career Fair in Farmingdale on October 4th and 5th.  It was very well attended.  It was nice to meet with young people interested in aviation and talk with them about what it is we do, not only as PAMA and LI PAMA, but what it takes to maintain aircraft and the wide range of career choices available in aviation.  LI PAMA co-hosted a booth at the Career Fair with WAMA and our appreciation to Jody Kerton for driving down and supporting the event.

Bob Brega was particularly charming and, as you can see by the photo, he absolutely captivated the little ones.   Thanks to everyone that helped, donated and volunteered at the AEC event.  Very special thanks to L.A. Wilson Tech for allowing LI PAMA to borrow their interactive cockpit instrument training panel.  A nice functional training aid that taught basic aircraft instrumentation.

Over the past 15 years we have been operating under National PAMA’s not for profit 501 (c) (6) Charter as an affiliated Trade Association,  Long Island Chapter PAMA.  We organized, filed and recently received our New York State Certificate of Incorporation under Section 402 of Not-For-Profit and are moving towad an independent 501 (c) (3) status.  In a nutshell, we will be adjusting our identity slightly as we are now Long Island Professional Aviation Maitenance Association, Incorporated.  Still the LI PAMA you know and trust with the same Leadership and Advisory Staff.  LI PAMA is coming of age. We are and remain 100% volunteer and we put 100% of all sponsorships monies back into supporting the organization and our membership.  We do this because it is important to contribute back to our AMT profession.  Donating our time, efforts and resources with the specific goal of improving aviation safety through maintenance education, training and information.

Speaking of AMT education and training…LIPAMA will be holding its annual FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) Training this coming February 16th 2013.

We will post information to the LI PAMA website on the particulars, so mark your calendars if you are an Inspection Authorized A&P who would like to receive 8 hours FAA annual training credits or if you hold a valid Airframe and/or Powerplant Certificate and are looking to sharpen your education.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the LI PAMA monthly dinner meetings throughout the season and we thank you all for your continued support.

We start signing folks in at 4:00 PM.  We expect most will really start showing up about 5 – 6 ish.

Jim Warrick and the Erin Chase will kick us off and are all set to play some great music for our listening enjoyment through the day.

Mama Mia’s outdid themselves…Starting with barbequed hot dogs and sausages and moving to courses of 6 foot heroes, Italian, American and Eggplant with Mozzarella with roasted peppers…Hot food trays with plenty of choices, Penne ala vodka, Eggplant Rollatini, Chicken Marsala and Leg of lamb….plus salads and beverages including, soda, water, beer, wine, coffee, tea and assorted desserts (pies, cakes and cookies).

We checked in again with that Crystal ball and it said that Elvis is definitely dead… however…we have confirmed that there will be a “man in black” performing…still not very clear… but it definitely will be entertainment for beyond… still playing this by ear, but it was very clear it was going to be fun!!

Our special thanks again to Hawthorne Global Aviation Services for allowing the Chapter the use of the ExcelAire hangar for this year’s event.

A big thanks to all our sponsors for helping out.  AirCell, Bombardier, CAMP Systems, Corporate Service and Supply, Cosgrove Aircraft Services, Dallas Airmotive, Duncan Aviation, ExcelAire, Eastway Jet Services, Hawker Beechcraft, ICG, Innotech-Execaire, LIBAA, Liberty Partners, PAMA National, ProStar Aviation, Rockwell Collins, Satcom Direct, Sheltair, Ship it AOG, Talon Air, Standard Aero and Vaughn College.   We could not host this free event without your sponsorships!

    Hello Everyone,

We are just a little over 3 weeks away from our Annual BBQ and Social and everything is shaping up nicely.

    LI PAMA BBQ 2012.pdf

If you have not registered and plan to attend, please do so soon so we can get an accurate headcount for food and beverages.

    http://www.lipama.org/Default.aspx?pageId=1243367&eventId=472402&EventViewMode=EventRegistration

The live entertainment this year will be provided by the talented Jim Warrick and the Lovely Erin Chase.  Erin and Jim will be performing sets of popular songs for our listening enjoyment and will be alternating performances.

We will have continuous music except for breaks for a few words from Dale Forton, PAMA National President, a check presentation to AEC, a few LI PAMA Chapter announcements and the all important door prize raffle!

Sadly this year, rumor has it that Elvis is dead L… we engaged the services of a spiritual medium to try and help us contact Elvis, but with no luck… although the crystal ball was a bit foggy…we did contact what appeared to be a man in black...now we think that Johnny Cash will be making an appearance…going to have to play that one by ear…

We are going to have Mama Mia’s Ristorante on the corner of Vets Memorial and Ocean Ave prepare 4 or 5 different choices of their best menu selections (the Chicken Marsala is a personal favorite), a table full of 6 foot Italian and American subs, and we plan on grilling some mighty fine sausages and serving them up on buns!  The break from hotdogs and hamburgers will be a good one…last couple times we did this…as the dogs and burgers were cooked and transferred into warming pans they ended up a little ”rubbery” and “soggy” by the time they were served.  Anna Marie (Mama Mia) and her staff are food artisans and you are in for a great taste experience!  Those that attended our IA Renewal last February remember how good that lunch was...

Our heartfelt thanks to Hawthorne Global Aviation Services for allowing the Chapter the use of the ExcelAire hangar for this year’s event.

We also extend special thanks to AirCell, Bombardier, CAMP Systems, Corporate Service and Supply, Cosgrove Aircraft Services, Duncan Aviation, Hawker Beechcraft, ICG, Innotech-Execaire, LIBAA, Liberty Partners, PAMA National, ProStar Aviation, Satcom Direct, Sheltair, Ship it AOG and Standard Aero for the sponsorships this year.  We could not host this free event without your generous sponsorships!  There is still time to sponsor, just let one of the Chapter Officers know and we would be happy to help you.

Set your plans, save the date and come out and enjoy yourselves.

See you on the 23rd starting at 4:00 PM!
